Ecommerce platform Shopify files for $100M IPO

The Canadian e-commerce platform Shopify announced its intent to go public in a filing with the SEC. The company plans to raise up to $100 million in the IPO and will list under the symbol “SHOP” on the New York Stock exchange. Other than announcing it's intent, Shopify revealed some interesting stats:
Shopify made $105.0 million in revenue last year, $50.3 million in 2013, and $23.7 million in 2012, $37.3 million in the last three months
Shopify had 162,261 merchants on its platform as of last month, operated in 150 countires and processed over $3.8 billion in Gross Merchandise Volume last year.

Akamai Acquires Octoshape in an All-Cash Transaction

Akamai announced that it has acquired Octoshape in a cash transaction. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, Ocotoshape offers cloud services that help OTT and IPTV companies stream video to a global audience. Akamai sought out the company for its video optimization technologies. The acquisition will let Akamai offer comprehensive video delivery and optimization solutions, fitting in with Akamai's strategy to further deploy its software into devices, carrier networks, enterprises, and even homes. Founded in 2003, Octoshape currently has over 40 employees. Akamai will pay cash for the company's outstanding equity.

Docker, the startup that kicked off the container revolution, raises $95M

Docker, the enterprise startup has announced a new $95 million round of funding, just seven months after revealing its previous round.Docker once went by the name dotCloud, when it was a platform as a service cloud provider. But that market has proven difficult. In 2013, the startup decided to pivot and open-source the code for the Linux container technology it used to run applications. The technology, called Docker, packages up code into containers that can be easily moved from one physical server to another. It’s a lightweight alternative to longstanding virtual machines. 3-4 million developers have downloaded more than 320 million Docker containers, up from 100 million at the beginning of this year.

Level 3 to Provide Data Center Services to Education Networks of America (ENA)

Level 3 Communications, the provider of communications services, networking solutions as well as data center and Content Delivery Network services, announced that the Education Networks of America (ENA) had entered into a long-term data center and colocation agreement with Level 3 to manage the latter’s Nashville corporate data center and regional production network. To ensure better space utilization as well as fast and reliable support for its network infrastructure ENA decided to outsource its data center services and that it where it selected Level 3.

Verizon Digital Media Services to Collaborate with Imagine for Multiscreen OTT Distribution

Verizon Digital Media Services (VDMS), which also comprises of the recently acquired EdgeCast Networks, announced that it is collaborating with Imagine Communications to create a comprehensive multiscreen OTT distribution solution. The new solution should integrate Imagine’s Zenium offering into VDMS’s Video Lifecycle Solution and provide broadcasters with an end-to-end video management solution to stream their linear content in a reliable and scalable fashion to their online viewers, maximizing the user experience. Both parties were satisfied over the acquisition.
