Last week's buzz on content delivery market certainly revolves around the Content Delivery Network Summit that took pace in New York on May 20th (http://www.contentdeliverysummit.com/2013/). The conference speakers took special interest in developing CDN platforms for the delivery of video, and content acceleration. Key speakers came from Netflix, Telstra, Level 3, Verizon, eBay, ChinaCache, Akamai, AWS, Telefonica and more.

Then, AWS would be McDonald's, says Derrick Haris at GigaOM. But, what about the rest? "The topic arose at the clouderati-filled Cloud 2020 meetup in Las Vegas last week (where someone suggested we’ll have a cloud duopoly of Amazon Web Services and Google) and it’s back in the public eye again this week with the general availability of Google Compute Engine. I think we might get an idea how the cloud computing market will play out by looking at the fast-food industry."
He explains the analogy by saying that cloud consumers also want speed, convenience, standardization, flexibility. Same as the fast food consumers. Why should cloud computing be any different, he continues.
"Sure, there are three clear leaders (with No. 1 having a big lead), but there’s plenty of business to go around because aside from some core similarities, no two providers are the same," he concludes.

The next big thing in discussing CDN platforms will be the CDN World Forum to be held at the Olympia National Hall in London, from June 26th-27th. The third such gathering this year, will present the how-to strategies from global authorities for content delivery, and will include speakers from Netflix, Orange, BBC, BSkyB, European Broadcasting Union, Telefonica, IHS and more.
